Mick Hanbury made the journey over from England to give us two demonstrations, one was a flanged bowl
with some piercing, the second was a spiralled box. Mick is an expert at his trade and ably demonstrated
his techniques. The show was enjoyed by about 60 Ulster Chapter members. Micks demo is illustrated
below.

Take a round of Sycamore and start turning
|


|
Refine the shape before using the Sorby texturing tool to mark the base
|


|
Sand the base before finalising the shape
|


|
Reverse the piece and start to hollow the centre measuring the thickness with calipers
|


|
Sand to a finish, mark the edge of the bowl, and hollow out the centre
|


|
Mick's depth gauge, sand the centre and mark the area to be pierced

Pierce, sand by hand and show off the finished piece
|

Take a piece of Pink Ivory, round and mark off
|


|
Do the inside of the lid first
|


|
Hollow the bottom, get your work checked by an expert and fit the lid
|


|
Finish the outside of the lid and shape the outside of the box before spiralling
|


|
Hollow the base of the box and show off the finished box
|
