Our March demonstrator was our very own Tom McCosh from Ballymena. Tom spent the first part of the
demo explaining his passion for innovation and new ideas. He showed us the pieces that had won him prizes
at last years IWG Seminar. Tom went on to explain where he gets his inspiration from, showing us different
magazines that he subscribes to. Tom showed us the home made router table he had made with all of
the various components in it. He explained how it worked and started to show us his vase. In the second
half of Tom's demo he explained how to create the varying thinkness vase, his 3rd dimension in woodturning.
It is explained in the pictures and words below.

In this project the hollowing must be done first, using a profile gauge

|
The dial gauge works by a wood screw being turned anti clockwise, screwing the screw out and letting
the curved profile move in. This enables the router to make a deeper cut each time.
|

|
Make a cut with the router, move the indexer on the lathe one place, move the screw dial gauge position
to let the profile go in and cut again. Do this 24 times. Be very careful to clean the table and don't
loose your place.
