Sam Abernethy gave 50 Ulster Chapter members a great demo on how to cope with small burrs. Sam used
a glue gun to hold a really awkward burr in order that he could make a beautiful burr bowl to see this

Spray the foot Glue the burr to a blank turned to an approximate fit
|


|
Glue a wedge for extra support and turn the centre of the burr to a bowl
|


|
Put an edge on the bowl and cut deeper
|


|
Finish the centre leaving a disc in the centre for some texturing, sand to a finish
|


|
Texture with Sorby tooland finish with oil, watch the pinkies
|


|
Forcibly remove the glue, clean off the remaining glue and fit the preprepared foot
|


|
What a beautiful job in less than an hour, there's more

Using Cole Jaws to do an offset turning for a clock barometer set
|

Glue a burr onto a backing piece and start to turn a box from the burr
|


|
Put the lid on the chuck and turn to size
|


|
Fit the lid to the box and turn to shape
|


|
Sand to a finish, make a piece of scrap to fit the lid aperture and turn around in the chuck
|


Turn off the scrap on the base and fit lid to finish. Sorry about the crap photo of Sam's finished
piece.

Drill a hole in the top of a burr and fit an oil light, 3 minutes
|
