April 2008

April's demonstration was attended by a full house who were treated to a feast of different types of turning techniques by Rocky Donnachie who showed us how to make "Smoking Men" Rocky was very entertaining keeping the audience laughing and paying close attention. These little figureines have a lot of potential for all turners. A lot of different techniques are needed.

Our competition was for a laminated turning and was well supported. The standard of the entries gave judges John McBride and Tom McCosh some difficulties in choosing the winners.

Rocky used superglue for the demo, but any wood glue will do. Use spirit dyes to colour the wood and carve the waistcoat if you want more detail. Do not sand above 320 if you want the spirit dye to get into the wood.
